As a small scale carbon manufacturer, German company THM-Carbones releases new products on a fairly infrequent basis. Their careful, thorough design and testing processes are intently focused on the safety of the finished product. Each THM product is subject to rigorous in-house and independent testing. Though it may seem ironic, this focus on safety in engineering allows THM to produce some of the lightest and most immaculately produced bicycle components available anywhere. There is no need to over engineer or overbuild when all the material properties and applied forces are studied and well understood.
The Scapula CT is THM’s long-awaited next generation fork which embraces the the 1-1/4” tapered headset standard. THM uses the same basic design and features of their standard straight steerer Scapula, with some minor tweaking. Carbon fibers are continuously and efficiently laid for the full length of the fork, and aluminum is applied to the axle contacts inside the dropouts to reinforce against wear or damage. While the CT boasts the same impressive lateral stiffness of the standard model, its carbon layup has been modified for a slightly relaxed fore/aft stiffness for increased rider comfort. Additionally, the CT eschews the standard Scapula’s bare carbon finish in favor of black paint to match common frame aesthetics. Two options are available: matte and gloss, both with silver THM logos.
Each THM product is manufactured to high German standards, and confidently covered by a 2 year warranty against defects in material and workmanship. THM displays additional confidence in their products with generous rider weight limits; Scapula forks are rated for an impressive 240 pound maximum. Please note: each individual fork is safety tested prior to shipment; the dropouts are clamped within a testing machine and may show slight surface impressions as a result.
We recommend that the installation of THM carbon forks be performed by a qualified, professional mechanic. Use of a torque wrench and attention to THM’s recommended torque values is required, and the use of carbon assembly paste for the stem/steerer interface is highly recommended. The CT is equipped with an integrated 45 degree crown race to fit standard 1.25" headset cartridge bearings.
