SRAM’s upgrades to their flagship Red group includes the addition of an extra cog, now matching their rivals with 11 speeds. True 22 refers to the 22 usable gears available to riders using the new components. This includes cross-chaining configurations which are fully encouraged vs shifting from the outer to inner rings to achieve the desired ratio.
Other improvements include easier access to the reach adjustment screws, to better fine tune how the levers feel when you’re in the drops, mid sprint or descent. Additionally the shifter paddle size has increased for a better grip and more leverage. The bulge at the top of the hoods has grown and been slightly reshaped for securing your hold on the hoods. Tacky rubber and texturizing in the right places makes these hoods even more comfortable than before.
Most of the internals from the previous iteration have been carried over, with a few small adjustments. This allowed SRAM to reduce the circumference of the shifter body, also to let you get a better grip and reduce the amount of effort it takes to shift.
