Known for producing some of the most handsome gram-conscious components on the market, Mcfk has been making a name for themselves by contributing to elite builds for years. With each part meticulously crafted by hand in Germany, all Mcfk components reflect an obvious attention to detail with a dedication to quality.
In an attempt to make the best possible rim for lightweight, wider-tire MTB builds, Mcfk spent countless hours researching and developing the most ideal method for producing carbon rims, and yielded truly impressive results. By focusing on the layup of each individual layer of carbon in their rims, Mcfk was able to produce the absolute finest ride characteristics, coupled with an impressive amount of strength. Unlike many other carbon rim manufacturers, Mcfk builds each rim using a monocoque system, thus guaranteeing excellent strength. Each rim is crafted from a single laminated piece that is then curved into the ideal shape, producing a homogeneous rim with high stability and improved weight savings. Additionally, the geometry of each Mcfk carbon rim has been dialed in to produce nearly perfect wheelbuild characteristics. With an asymmetric profile, spoke tension is even throughout the build, yielding a well balanced, stronger wheel. Being the wide version of the MCFK mountain rim, a generous 35mm inner width and a 44mm outer width provide the perfect platform for tire sizes from 2.35” to 2.95” (60mm – 75mm). The wider profile also increases the lateral stiffness of the rim, while it’s 29mm height ensures optimal radial stiffness. Mcfk also carefully calculates the inner and outer rim widths to yield a wide and strong rim wall, helping to prevent damage in the event of a bottom out. As an added measure of ingenious design, spoke holes on the Mcfk carbon rims are compressed and laminated, achieving a much higher level of durability than carbon rims with crudely drilled holes. This method of laminating the spoke holes also allows Mcfk to form a “ball head” nipple seat, allowing better nipple positioning/orientation. While these rims are very high-tech, the end user has not been forgotten: the deep (4mm) rim well ensures easier mounting of tubeless tires. Weighing in at an impressive 390 grams, these 28 hole, 27.5” (650b) rims feature a semi-gloss satin black UD finish with white logos. Proving to be one of the most well made rims on the market, the Mcfk carbon MTB rim is the ideal choice for the discerning cyclist in search of weight savings and durability rolled into one incredible package.
For their 35mm mountain rims, Mcfk recommends tire widths between 2.35 and 2.95 inches.
If you run tire sizes from 1.95 to 2.35 inches please see MCFK’s narrower mountain rim here.
We recommend that wheels with Mcfk carbon rims be assembled by an experienced wheel builder. Mcfk recommends a maximum spoke tension of 100 kgf, with an average of 90 kgf. Tubeless tape with a width of 35mm is recommended, paired with 46mm long tubeless valves.
