KCNC's Morion line of headsets utilize a unique bearing specification to achieve a near-untouchable low weight. These sealed cartridge bearings use titanium races with a high-tech DLC (diamond like coating), combined with super hard and lightweight ceramic balls. Additionally, the headset's crown races, upper bearing covers, and top caps are extensively machined from lightweight 6061 aluminum.
The M3 headset is a standard, pressed-in 1-1/8" external headset, and is only compatible with frames and forks designed for this standard. The M3's design cleverly eliminates the bearing cups by adding skirts to the outer bearing races, which press into the bicycle frame's headtube. The M3 is the lightest external cartridge bearing headset in the world.
A headset press will be required to properly set the bearings into your frame's headtube. Additional caution should be taken to ensure that the inner bearing races are not loaded during installation, and that your headtube is accurately reamed and faced. This headset features a tool-free split crown race. Also included is a star nut for use with aluminum steerer tubes.
