The BB86 (road) and BB92 (mountain) bottom bracket standards, developed jointly by Shimano and Scott Bicycles, are an extension of the Hollowtech II design which placed the bearings outside of a standard threaded bottom bracket shell to improve crankset stiffness and bearing durability. BB86 further improves upon this design by widening the bottom bracket shell so that the bearings are now encompassed within the frame and not in an external cup. Rather than threading the bearing cups into the shell, a BB86 bottom bracket is lightly press fit into the frame for a stiff, secure connection between the crankset and frame. BB86/92 is additionally compatible with Sram's GXP spindle standard when used with a specific GXP bottom bracket.
HSC's BB86 and BB92 bottom brackets represent affordable, high quality aftermarket options for Hollowtech II or GXP cranksets paired with BB86 or BB92 frames such as those from manufacturers Giant and Scott. These bottom brackets are CNC machined from high strength delrin plastic and equipped with HSC's hybrid ceramic bearings.

Installation / Assembly
We recommend that BB86 bottom brackets be professionally installed. In the absence of a specific BB86 installation tool, a standard headset press may be used. On some frames, it may be possible to press the cups in by hand.
