EE G4 2018 Direct Mount Brakeset

The latest generation of the eeBrake from American Manufacturer Cane Creek continues its run as the absolute benchmark of road brake calipers. The G4 eeBrake is one of the lightest road brakes, but through careful engineering it makes no compromise on all-out braking power and an impressive power curve for excellent modulation. Braking performance is quite impressive; on par if not exceeding the industry-leading offers from Shimano and Campagnolo. The aesthetics of the brake vary slightly from the last generation, but remain one of the most handsome options available.  The flanges around each bushing have also been removed, creating a sleeker look while allowing for the use of thinner bushings. These new bushings increase stiffness in the caliper actuation, improving brake response and lever feedback. One of the eeBrakes' unchanged features is the unique design of the brake pad carrier. Changing the pad requires no special tools and only takes a few seconds. The pads are securely held in place using a notch and groove system, with no chance of moving under forward or backwards braking forces. However, the pad itself can be quickly removed by hand right from the holder. This feature is especially useful for those who switch between carbon and aluminum rims on a regular basis.

G4 Direct Mount Updates

Changes from the previous G3 model include the following:

  • Return/centering spring changed from silver to black and increased in gauge for greater stiffness.
  • Width of the main pivots increased by 4mm, optimized for 22-28mm rim widths
  • Tire clearance increased to fit up to 30/31mm widths
  • Barrel adjuster changed from steel to titanium
  • Short Lever option added for seatstay rear brake, allowing compatibility with more frames with no need to purchase additional adapters
  • Updated centering adjustment dial

Brakes are sold as individual calipers. Which brakes you need will depend on the configuration of the frameset they are to be installed on. Below is a brief explanation of the available options. Please contact us if you have any questions regarding compatibility.

Front or Rear - Fork/Seatstay - The current model front DM eeBrake uses a machined aero-light front arch that provides aerodynamic efficiency, low weight, and outstanding braking performance. This model fits most forks with forward-facing direct mount brakes, as well as frames such as the Trek Emonda with a seatstay direct-mount rear brake. Some frames with aero seat tubes and low seat stay/seat tube junctions that use Direct Mount brakes on the seat stays may not provide clearance needed for the eeBrake, or may require the short lever version. Specifically, Tarmac frame sizes 54cm and smaller will require the short lever version.

Rear Chainstay - This rear-specific DM eeBrake is ideally suited for road and TT frames with the brake positioned under the bottom bracket. The DM provides a narrow brake profile for clearance at bottom bracket/chain stay area inside of the crank for crank arm fitted power meters including Stages, Pioneer, and Dura Ace power meters. The “across the center” eeBrake cable routing works perfectly in the space limitations under the bottom bracket.

Rear Seatstay (Short Lever) - This version of the eeBrake is designed to fit smaller size frames and aerodynamic frames that have limited rear brake clearance. The Specialized Tarmac SL6 requires this brake, and frames sizes 49-54cm will require the additional adapter.
