At Eurobike Tune will unveil a new crankset, a carbon fiber version based on the current Smartfoot design. The new crank does not yet have a name but we do have some details about it. Officially it’s being released as a a mountain bike crank but we are fairly confident that it will also be available in road variants. While we don’t know too much about the new crank yet, we do know that it is a hollow carbon design with a claimed very high STW-value. It will be a “smart spindle system” which should mean an alloy spindle that the crank covers virtually all bearings standards, English BSA, Italian, bb30, pf30, bbright, bbright direct fit, bb86, bb90, bb92, PF30DH, Fsa pressfit, Specialized OSBB, and 386Evo. It will also have as an option a 76bcd spider for single speed and XX1 applications with single speed rings available in 30, 32, 34, 36, and 38 tooth options.
The weight is said to be 360 grams for the cranks, spindle, XX1 spider and lockring. So if we add in parts for a complete crankset, Chainring bolts 10 grams, bsa bb 92 grams that gives us a complete crank weight of 462 grams (430 grams for bb30 version) which would put it right on par with Thm weights.
More details to come as we get them.
