While a handful of manufacturers have successfully mated an aerodynamic fork and front brake, none has so elegantly accomplished anything similar to what THM has with the Scapula F. The F designation is taken from the Latin frenum which translates into, simply, brake. This extremely lightweight and aerodynamic fork features a completely integrated carbon brake, optimal for use on time trial bikes.
The design of the Scapula F's integrated brake is unlike other road brake designs and is, in fact, much more similar to a mountain bike V brake. Adapting this V brake design to their fork, THM was able to eliminate the need for a traditional return spring. The dual cantilevered brake arms are exceptionally rigid and powerful due to their full carbon construction, but remain practically invisible when not engaged for the lowest possible air resistance.
At a mere 340 grams, the Scapula F reaches a weight class which most non-aerodynamic lightweight forks can't touch, with or without a brake. For races against the clock, this provides an additional power-saving benefit when hills are encountered. It should be noted, too, that this fork is no noodly wimp. Like all THM Scapula forks, the F's carbon layup schedule eliminates excess material without compromising its extreme lateral rigidity and safety.
