About Reynolds Cycling
In the relatively short history of carbon wheels, Reynolds has been at the forefront of technology, innovation and product leadership. Based in West Jordan, Utah, Reynolds has brought to market many major innovations in the carbon rim world. Some of these innovations include the worlds first carbon clincher, improved laminate and layup designs, and innovative aerodynamic profiles. For 2011 Reynolds introduces the Reynolds Composites Studio. According to Reynolds, "the idea behind the RCS was to create a design-engineering environment where innovation is a mandate and performance is a mantra. RCS is the first stage in continuous process that allows us to control carbon wheel technology all the way from concept to customer." RCS is lead by composites legend Paul Lew, as Director of Technology and Innovation Paul is responsible for many of the designs, molds, tooling, and production techniques.

Detail
Reynolds 46 tubular rim features a 46mm depth, giving great versatility. The 46mm cross section and innovative Swirl Lip Generator make this rim competitive on nearly any race course imaginable. If we had to chose one rim depth to suit the majority of American racing and group rides, we would recommend 46mm or comparable. Light enough to go uphill with the sveltest of wheels, while simultaneously providing superb aerodynamics for our day in and day out terrain. Reynolds engineers use their combined experience to dial in the all important laminates for the 2011 line. The laminate schedule is a detailed plan that specifies the relative angles of the fibers in the various layers, the number of piles and the method for layering them. These are the details that uniquely define a wheels performance, the "secret sauce" if you will.

The 46 tubular features the aforementioned Swirl Lip Generator. According to Reynolds the leading edge of a bicycle wheel is critical to its aerodynamic performance. The Swirl Lip Generator is a .9mm lip, specifically placed on the leading edge of the rim that effectively widens the rim near the spoke face. Its primary effect is to assist air flowing around the rim to re-attach, thus minimizing pressure drag. It makes air want to stick to the rim, smoothing the turbulence and pressure drag. The bottom line is that while the Swirl Lip Generator makes the 46 tubular more aero under normal conditions it really shines under crosswinds.

For 2011 Reynolds rims feature their CTg Brake Track. CTg stands for cryo + glass transition point, Reynolds developed a patented, temperature conducive resin for the break track, molded it in a protective fabric containment layer, then mated it with a specially formulated proprietary Cryo Blue Brake pad. The result is a lightweight, super efficient system that actually removes heat from the rim. Reynolds claims their rims have been tested to operate up to 100 degrees cooler than other carbon rims. Cooler operation means virtually no chance for heat induced rim failure. You can expect extremely smooth braking, linear stopping forces and zero pulsing. .

Each Reynolds rim includes a full set of Reynolds' proprietary Cryo Blue brake pads - please indicate upon purchase whether Shimano or Campagnolo style pads are required.

We recommend that wheels built with Reynolds rims be assembled by an experienced wheelbuilder. We are happy to provide this service, and can provide helpful suggestions in hub and spoke selections. Please contact us directly or submit a custom wheel build request here.
