These high quality aluminum nipples from spoke manufacturer Pillar are intended for use with modern rims where the spoke threads and nipple are located inside the rim cavity. Manufacturers such as Reynolds and Enve Composites design their carbon fiber rims specifically for use with this nipple. Use of an internal nipple allows for smaller spoke holes which distributes force from spoke tension over a larger area.

Assembly
Pillar internal nipples must be properly oriented to prevent rim damage. The outward facing side features a cylindrical tool catch, while the inward facing side features a spherical surface and recessed threads. To properly tighten these nipples, an internal spoke wrench with a 3/16" hex socket is required.
