Over a decade long relationship with Parlee we've had the pleasure of building up frames suited to our customers unique needs. Often times the criteria of a specific build were obviously suited to a Parlee frameset. As the public became more knowledgeable on the benefits of aerodynamic framesets for everyday riding and rolling terrain there a void quickly developed for comfortable five plus hour aero road frames. Now, thanks to the hard work by everyone at Parlee we're happy to introduce the ESX Frameset by Parlee. The latest in the category of "aero road" bikes that effectively balances stiffness, aerodynamics and comfort. This bike is destined to stand out in the peloton with its unique aerodynamic profile but is far more likely to stand out to the rider as fatigue is lessened and the efficiency is realized.
Drawing from a wealth of experience designing and manufacturing boats that move through water with as little drag as possible, Bob Parlee was able to create the "Recurve tubing" system utilized by the ESX. This is the explanation for the unusual top and downtube shapes. The Recurve tubing was designed to minimize drag, maximize torsional stiffness, while simultaneously creating a desirable ride quality for long days in the saddle.
With every frame in the aero-road market looking to stand out we're happy that Parlee created a platform for us to build a bike with almost any component system and wheel of our choosing. The ESX can be internally routed for both electric and mechanical shift systems and accommodates up to a 28c tire size.
Available in five "Flex-Fit" sizes, with 10 different stack and reach combinations, the ESX is ideal for riders looking for an aerodynamic build that they can dial-in to their exact body specifications. One aspect of fitting an ESX frame that, in particular, stood out to us was their elimination of a tall and short frame set. Many of you probably know from other models that you could get a medium tall and a medium short frame. The tall and short differentiated in head tube length. This means that you had to pick up front the geometry best for you before purchasing. The ESX now is interchangeable between tall and short geometries using a spacer system. This means the we, or you, can play around with a wider range of handle bar positions with the same frame.
In the fashion of whats typically expected from Parlee frames, all these benefits come in at and impressive 950 grams. Sub-kilo road frames are nothing new and not considered extremely light, but when looking at the aero-road category sub-kilo is a platform you could consider building an Alpe d'Huez slaying machine on that would urge you to sprint for the town limit signs all the way back home.
We recommend that assembly of a high end frame set such as the Z5i be performed by an experienced professional. At Fair Wheel Bikes, we can provide helpful suggestions for component selection as well as partial assembly prior to shipment. Contact us directly for more details.
For those wishing to run a Shimano Hollowtech II crankset, a Parlee PF30 adapter specifically designed for use with their frames is available.
