ORCs? ELFs??? Crashes, Christmas in January?
Fairwheel Bikes

It's been a while since we've reached out to say hello with our last newsletter. Christmas, New Years, a new decade and a blue moon have all gone by. So I, needless to say, feel a little out of touch. But it's been busy here so let's catch you up. We have ORCs! That's right the long awaited and much anticipated Alchemy ORC is here. It's hard to call anything the best considering the wide variety of conditions and applications found for bikes but it has a few of us giddy.

Christmas in January-no we're not procrastinating-it's just that we're adding new products to the web site as fast as we can. Which is not fast enough because the new products are piling up in the photo booth and under computer monitors everywhere. So, no not Christmas in January, but if we put on a Christmas tree as a screen saver it just might be. Finally, I've been writing to you for a year without much presentation. The anonymous fingers behind a few key strokes every month and more than one typo. I'm also the one who sits and types a lot of code trying to keep the web site running as smoothly as possible. But now I'm here to introduce myself.

The ORC, Alchemy's Rear Hub
Alchemy ORC Rear Hub

As I finalized the word "Hub" in this title section something dawned on me. We're excited about a hub from a company that only has one other hub. This is the second hub in a series of two, which is 100% growth in their product line-up.

Yes, I'm comfortable with that. It's a testament to Alchemy, their success, attention to detail, and our experiences with the front ELF hub. I've talked about the pending release of Alchemy's ORC rear hub before but don't just trust me. The Wheel Whisperer (Guy Richard) sounds impressed too and he pulled out calipers, measured angles in degrees, weighed in grams, talked about overhauling and somehow lost twenty five cents. Read his Alchemy ORC rear hub review.

Racing, Crashing and Getting Up Again

Emiliano Jordan; Oregon State Crit Championships
Back to the introductions: I'm Emiliano Jordan, with Fairwheel Bikes. We have a lot of racers and riders on staff. A few cyclocross racers, a few more road racers, a slew of mountain bikers (some that even use the words "gnarly" and "shuttle") and even some Triathletes. Not to mention the host of racers and pros that call our shop home.  We have a firm grasp of trying, with varying levels of success, to go as fast as we can. We lay low, rarely seen in a Fairwheel kit, but we're there. Racing, riding, drinking coffee and joking around.

This year in particular was a little trying for me and I've had the pleasure of writing about it. Better yet it seems it was good enough to get me a guest post on Oregon's bicycle racing news site. So if you didn't want to skip right over this to the new products listed below you can pass a little time reading my story.

New Products, Lost in a Sea
Chris King R45 Road Hubs
Lezyne Bicycle Floor Pump Chris King Headset

We have Chris King's new road specific front and rear hubs on the way. The R45 has a few features aimed at the road market, like more titanium internals, and redesigned bearings to reduce drag. The hubs still maintain Chris King's basic company philosophy with it's heavy machining and serviceability while still being manufactured in Portland, Oregon.

With the addition of Lezyne floor pump we've added a selection of pumps with something for everyone. From the classic Steel Floor Drive to the modern aluminium CNC Floor Drive and the pump that brings them both together the Alloy Floor Drive.

We're (re-)expanding our selection to include US based Chris King's component line. Attracted to their quality and craftsmanship we're happy to be offering you their classic 1-1/8" NoThreadSet headsets.

Lezyne Multi Tools
Colored Aluminum Single Speed Chainring Bolts EDGE Composites 2.25 Tubular Rims

We're adding 6 mini-tools from Lezyne's line up. The Carbon 5, and Carbon 10, the V5, and V10, Rap 13, and the Stainless 20 multi-tool

First the Campagnolo Style chainring bolts and now a single speed option. Now no matter your need for chainring bolts there is more than likely a KCNC bolt to cover it. Featuring a key hex slot that allows for a tool to be fully inserted into the bolt, which helps in preventing damage to the soft, light aluminum when tightening the bolts.

Following EDGE's naming standard the EDGE 2.25 tubular rim is a stronger version of their 1.25 rim with the same depth and profile. This rim is the same rim that Jonathan Page has been riding on his Blue Cross Bike for the '09 - '10 season with good success.
