Designed for the rigors of competitive road racing, the Alize's design principles may be summed up in two words: aerodynamics and comfort. This frame's specialty lies in long rides where the benefits of an aerodynamic frame and a measure of vertical compliance increase with every mile. In competition, the importance of increased efficiency through these two principles cannot be overstated; in the wind-up to that final kilometer, the rider who is less fatigued has a distinct advantage. For those who don't compete but enjoy riding all the same, arriving home less fatigued allows more time and energy for life's other pursuits.
In designing an aerodynamic road frame, NeilPryde has not produced some laughable monstrosity, but rather a surprisingly elegant and efficient-looking machine. The Alize's lines blend seamlessly from tube to tube, and even the tight junctions of the rear triangle have been carefully carved to allow the best possible airflow. Using extended Kammtail design principles, the tube cross sections are kept to respectable dimensions while retaining the aerodynamic benefit provided by much longer shapes. A proprietary airfoil-shaped seatpost further extends this design, turning this frameset into more of a system. Even the Alize's seatpost clamp system is designed with clean, simple lines. Using a shrouded clamp, no irregular surfaces are exposed and the result is an attractive, near seamless junction of carbon tubes.
From design to execution, the NeilPryde and BMW DesignWorks team spared little in the pursuit of building the best possible product. In doing so, they've matched or surpassed other decades-old frame manufacturers. Starting with experienced design professionals to create a unique look and explore the boundaries of what would be possible, the genesis of the Alize frameset was formed through hand sketches. Using these as inspiration, computer models were created and tested using advanced Computational Fluid Dynamics, essentially a virtual wind tunnel. In the interest of being thorough, actual wind tunnel testing followed with the production of scale mock-ups. The efforts of this extensive design process are well represented in the final product, the NeilPryde Alize.
