The Shimano bottom bracket standard BB86 is an extension of their Hollowtech II design which placed the bearings outside of a standard threaded bottom bracket shell to improve crankset stiffness and bearing durability. BB86 further improves upon this design by widening the bottom bracket shell so that the bearings are now encompassed within the frame and not in an external cup. Rather than threading the bearing cups into the shell, a BB86 bottom bracket is lightly press fit into the frame for a stiff, secure connection between the crankset and frame.
HSC's BB86 bottom bracket represents an affordable, high quality aftermarket option for Hollowtech II compatible cranksets paired with BB86 frames such as those from manufacturers Giant and Scott. These bottom brackets are CNC machined from high strength delrin plastic and equipped with HSC's hybrid ceramic bearings. The HSC version of this bottom bracket saves weight over other designs by eliminating the unnecessary center sleeve.
BB86 bottom brackets are only compatible with frames designed for this standard, paired with Hollowtech II cranksets. Feel free to contact us directly for technical questions.
We recommend that BB86 bottom brackets be professionally installed. In the absence of a specific BB86 installation tool, a standard headset press may be used. On some frames, it may be possible to press the cups in by hand.
