HED's Belgium C2 rims are one of our top picks for custom built wheels, and are quite possibly the finest aluminum tubular rims available. Using strict manufacturing tolerances and good quality control, HED has produced a near perfectly round rim with extremely parallel machined braking surfaces. Using such tight tolerances allows for wheel builds with better spoke tension balance, increasing the longevity of the build. A nearly imperceptible welded rim seam and wide cross section ensure a high strength-to-weight ratio and maxiumum wheel life. Prior to machining, the rim surface is bead blasted and black anodized for a clean, elegant look. The applied Belgian flag decals are reflective for added safety when riding in low light situations.
This tubular version of the C2 rim combines maximum "race day" performance with a lower cost relative to carbon tubular rims. Compared to carbon, aluminum offers more consistent braking response, better all-out stopping power, and better wet weather performance. Additionally, the C2's wide cross section also provides a large contact patch for the tire, ensuring the best possible adhesion along with improved aerodynamic performance. The benefit of a larger gluing surface cannot be understated, especially within the cyclocross discipline where even the best-glued tires are prone to rolling.
