Upcoming new & lighter QR version

Postby pk0r » Tue Apr 29, 2008 10:22 pm

Due to good contacts to LEW Racing & Carbon-Ti I have been given the chance to be testing & evaluating their upcoming QRs over the past month, with a special view at the functionability in combination with the Pro VT-1 wheelset to eventually then bundle them with the wheels.
Howsoever to cut a long story short as followed some facts on these:
They are to come both in Road as well as MTB version. Just as with their current already famous version of QRs the road version comes with alu axles front and rear whilst the MTB version sports Ti ones. The levers are made of Ti for both versions. Targeted weight is 31/32g for the road and 38/39g for the MTB version. My test sample (road version) still has 36.5g. I found it to be working very well & have tested it for >1000km in combination with LEW and Campa Neutron wheels. They will be available in all of Carbon-Ti's anodized colors. ETA: soon...

Those look seriously nice! These must be the most beautiful skewers I've seen, an interesting marriage between elegance and minimalism... I find them immaculate!

I'd change one tiny detail for production, though. I would slightly increase the radius of the transition from the ball-shaped pivot to the lever, both for enhanced aesthetics and added strength. The 0.03 grams gained will be for a good cause! But that's just my opinion as a designer... :D:blah:

How soon is the estimated release date and for how much will they set us mortals back, when bought separately from a Lew wheelset?

I have to correct myself: fact is Carbon-Ti has already announced these skewers as new arrivals and I already had a test sample from Gerhard at Parts Of Passion, who so far at the same time has been active for Carbon-Ti as well. However there seems to having been a fallen out between the parties (..) - bottom line the skewers are property of Parts Of Passion, not Carbon-Ti. Gerhard asked me to correct this.
Retail appears to come out at 89Eur.

They look to me, very much like the M2R or Onmi skewers, which is a good thing! Love the M2R...

Can't wait for these to become available.

Some news on the skewers. Supposedly, they'll weigh even less than initially claimed. :D

These will be arriving at my bike soon! Anyone want my old KCNC skewers?

When will they be available?

They are listed on the Carbon-Ti website but without any details, suggesting 24gms the set!?!

If they hold well, then I am sold!

I've ordered them from Parts of Passion. I'm not sure what the deal is with Carbon-Ti, which is actually a sub-brand owned by a company called LLS specifically for bikes.

Parts of Passions gives a price of 96 euros for road skewers and 108 euros for the mountainbike version. The road skewers have aluminium rods and the MTB have titanium rods, making them slightly heavier but also more sturdy than the road. Both have titanium levers.

Note: the first production run has all been sold out but they should be available around half July.

@The Remery: PM me about the KCNCs

We are the sales office of Carbon-Ti.

We have recently realized that a great confusion has been created around Carbon Ti name and that’s why we wish to give you the following clarifications :

LLS Titanium is the Italian owner of Carbon Ti brand . Gerhard Dummert (Parts of passion) has been our collaborator for a while, but he’s not working with us anymore.

We had a perfect cooperation with him, but now something has changed, not due to our will.

All Carbon Ti products are 100% made in Italy - We can not accept the use of our Italian Carbon Ti name for products which are not manufactured by our company

and for which we do not know the country of origin.

The new version of our quick release has been realized in LLS and it is a property of Carbon Ti.

If Parts of Passion wants to sell his products, this can be done with no association to our Carbon Ti brand.

The picture below published by mythical shows OUR products not Parts of passion's product!
If anybody wants to buy our QR can contact us to sales@carbon-ti.com.

We hope everything is clear now.
We remain at your complete disposal for any further question and clarification.

Best regards

Erika Aprile

I'm a great proponent of clarity and attempted to sort out the confusion involving Carbon-Ti and Parts of Passion.

Today I spoke with Erika from Carbon-Ti/LSS. Erika and I agreed that I post the following information.

Erika mentioned that over the past years, Carbon-Ti had a very fruitful relationship with Gerhard Dummert. I was told this was due to a change in company policy. I've also been told they have parted under good circumstances with mutual agreement.

I actually spoke to Gerhard Dummert last week. He also confirmed that his company, Parts of Passion, has parted ways with Carbon-Ti.

The photos of the skewers I posted earlier are indeed from Carbon-Ti. These skewers, just like all other Carbon-Ti parts, are 100% manufactured in Brescia, Italy (about 60km east of Milano).

Coincidentally, just before my conversation with Erika, I spoke with a friend of mine, who is one of Italy's distributors of Carbon-Ti. I've been promised a set of skewers to be sent to me soon. I also ordered a set of skewers from Parts of Passion in the hope to receive both shortly, so I can make a comparison. More on that soon...

I happen to know that Baum Cycles, the Australian distributor of Carbon-Ti, recently received some mountainbike skewers. More on that here.

A reminder of Baum Cycles fans coming to Eurobike: There will be some Baum bikes on display on the LLS booth this year. LLS is the mother company of Carbon-Ti.

carbon ti - parts of passion

Postby carbon-ti_by_LLS » Fri Jun 20, 2008 10:02 am

Thanks Mythical for your clarification.
One more thing : Parts of Passion was distributor of Carbon Ti products line for Germany and Swiss , no part of Carbon Ti company.

That's all.
