Update: Ruegamer now 3,640 grams, (8.01 lbs)

Postby Donald » Fri Jul 01, 2011 1:48 am

These may not be the best pictures, the scale reads 3,630 but it is more like 3,640.The new dash hubs and saddle did not bring it under 8 lbs. its about 5 grams over. For now I hope to get some 29 gram Eclipse tubes in Aug. and maybe this Fall a much lighter stem and lighter seat post which should bring it to around 7.8 lbs. For those not familiar with this frame, it is a 4 year old 54 cm. custom zen uberlight 86 mm. BB width. 610 grams with F. & R. derailleur hangers and down tube bosses. Next week I will post the things that brought it from 8.2 lbs., to 8.01. The dash saddle is the same as most in size except for the length, basically a saddle with a very short nose.

Thanks for the update Don~! :applause:

The info that I (selfishly) would like is about the drilling you did on the rim beds. Do you have any photos?
the problem? could be the nut behind the handlebars.

On making the rims lighter. First, with a hand sander I sand the complete sides just a little less near the top. Then with a dremel tool sanding the lower half of the rim , but not at the spoke hole area, I want as much material around the spoke holes as possible. On rims that I want to be uber light, I drill holes between spoke holes, depending on how light I want the rim, there are more or fewer holes and also the size of the holes. I no longer drill the upper bed. I don't have pictures of that right now.
