This Year's SoapBox Cars

Postby slisk » Sat Mar 12, 2011 6:00 am

I believe I gave some pictures of a few of the cars I prepared for our local soapbox derby for the Dhahran Cub Scouts last year. In 2010, I modified a stock car to handle our Cubmaster race in the "Deathmobile". This year the Deathmobile &Richard Petty cars return but the highlights include Jeff Gordon, Eddie Van Halen, USA Evil Kneivel, and Dale Earnhardt cars. No paint here - all is done with contact paper...enjoy

So cool! I never had this opportunity as a kid - what a sad life I had.

I'll bet the kids go bonkers.

I really like the Eddie Van Halen one. Great job.

Do you have a hill or some other slope?

We have a hill that is about 3%. We used to go to the bottom but two years ago the speeds were to much for the 7 year olds to handle and they put them into the curbs destroying many axle spindles and self confidence as well. One kid never hit the brakes and stopped a quarter mile down the road. I guess the cars were going 20MPH+. We moved the finish line up a few hundred meters.

We have a few new cars coming in the post. I have two paint schemes in mind. One is the famous 1957 Tamale Wagon Sprinter drove by Roger McCluskey (from the CRA days). The other is an Alice Cooper car.

I'll post a video soon of some racing action.
