Lightning cranks & pedal washers

I posted this on WW, but figured I might get an answer here-

I have lightning cranks-- I've come to realize I need pedal washers to move my pedals a bit further from the cranks-- pedal washers from the LBS won't fit- I was able to modify some nylon washers to fit the bill-- is it safe to use nylon instead of steel washers? Reason I ask is the folks at lightning want to charge me $10 plus $5 shipping for washers which is pissing me off, especially since the cranks didn't come with them.

i wouldn´t use nylon at this place. with nylon you do not have a real hard contact so pedal could flex a bit wich in a long time can wear out the treads and after a while the the nylon will "float" and wears out faster and faster.
use some aluminium spacers instead.

what pedals washers have you tried? I have a few diff brands I will measure the outside diameters today at work and let you know later his evening. If I have a set that work you can have them

I would think nylon would work perfectly in this situation. It is surprisingly durable, and in some cases stronger than steel. You would be surprised at what it is used for in industry.

OD needs to be slightly less than 19mm, checked w/ digital and manual calipers.

So, I found some aluminum washers w/ an 18.5 OD and placed an order ($7 including shipping, for 5 of them)-- I'll probably have to drill out the center, but that shouldn't be a big deal, I've got a kick-ass set of drill bits and if that doesn't work, there's always the metal shop at the high school where I teach.

If anyone has pedal washers w/ an OD less than 19mm they're not using, I'd be happy to take them off your hands (or pedals)!
