I only ride early morning when its hot - even then can be a close call. On Xmas day a 1.5hr planned MtB ride saw me running out of water (3l) at the 2.5hr mark when it was over 40 at 10:30am...

Other option is on the velodrome in the evening

I kinda miss it here in Sweden as there is just one oval in Sweden and it is 250km away

Must say we are very fortunate in Australia. Most capital cities have an indoor timber velodrome plus other outdoor tracks and most country towns will too!

Racing and training on the velodrome is anything but boring!

I actually would live to ride the track. There is a lot going on at the track only 100km from my house, but I just don't have time for it. That's in my list of things to finally do when my kids are all grown. That and scuba diving.

That is main benefit of riding road - can ride straight from your door. Though I have four velodromes including our International level indoor timber track within a ~10km radius from home...

Must be nice! And ya, that's why riding the road is so convenient. For a good MTB ride I have to toss the bike in the car and drive. Just too much extra time required. On weekends I have a very limited window of time to ride or the wife isn't happy. Happy wife = happy life.

It does kind of suck, but on the other hand my father in law lives about 235 km away in the same direction. I've been meaning to try it out but it hasn't happened yet. Between visiting all the relatives, skiing, and skating, there's not that much time left. And in the summer running and road riding is nice too (there be hills, which we don't have in Stockholm).

Jeff, while Andy's a nice guy I wouldn't travel from the US to where he lives. There are more exciting parts of Germany. Honestly even Stockholm is more exciting than Andy's hometown.

Which is why George Clooney is in town. He must be tired of the nice places.
