A few weeks ago I noticed a lump on my left calf. My doctor sent me to a specialist to look at it and he wanted it out. So I was scheduled for outpatient surgery when I returned from vacation and Tuesday was it. Fortunately, it was a local, so I didn't need to fast before and I was able to drive myself to and from - I also got to park right in front of the doors to the hospital!
Went in - legs are already shaved so no need for that. I was all set and ended up waiting 30 minutes for the doctor to show up. We were all ready to go and he got a phone call- disappeared for another 10 minutes for a personal phone call. It's not like you can yell at the guy who is about to cut into your leg, so I kept my mouth shut. At least the nurse was pissed too (she told me before he came back in).
The good news is I was able to watch- it was a local anesthetic so after the incision I was able to lift my head up, watch him poking around under my skin and then pull the sucker out. It was white and a little smaller than a peanut m&m. It was all above the muscle and now I have to wait until next week for a pathology report, but he didn't seem concerned. Most of what I've read says these things end up being nothing.
No pain either- even after the local wore off the worst I've had is a little soreness and I think that was more from the injection. Worst part is I can't ride until next week. I just took a week off on vacation w/ my wife and now it's another week (save the 31 mile ride I got in on Monday).
I should've taken a picture of the lump when he pulled it out so I could put it on the top tube of my bike.
