Had a little surgery on Tuesday

Postby mdeth1313 » Thu Aug 30, 2012 2:52 am

A few weeks ago I noticed a lump on my left calf. My doctor sent me to a specialist to look at it and he wanted it out. So I was scheduled for outpatient surgery when I returned from vacation and Tuesday was it. Fortunately, it was a local, so I didn't need to fast before and I was able to drive myself to and from - I also got to park right in front of the doors to the hospital!

Went in - legs are already shaved so no need for that. I was all set and ended up waiting 30 minutes for the doctor to show up. We were all ready to go and he got a phone call- disappeared for another 10 minutes for a personal phone call. It's not like you can yell at the guy who is about to cut into your leg, so I kept my mouth shut. At least the nurse was pissed too (she told me before he came back in).

The good news is I was able to watch- it was a local anesthetic so after the incision I was able to lift my head up, watch him poking around under my skin and then pull the sucker out. It was white and a little smaller than a peanut m&m. It was all above the muscle and now I have to wait until next week for a pathology report, but he didn't seem concerned. Most of what I've read says these things end up being nothing.

No pain either- even after the local wore off the worst I've had is a little soreness and I think that was more from the injection. Worst part is I can't ride until next week. I just took a week off on vacation w/ my wife and now it's another week (save the 31 mile ride I got in on Monday).

I should've taken a picture of the lump when he pulled it out so I could put it on the top tube of my bike.

Well, I sure hope that the worst part is not being allowed to ride. Best of luck with the results and the recovery.

Get some testosterone. That speeds up recovery, right?

Hmmmm, did micro-dosing become en-vogue during the Postal years or was that during the Disco era? Cause maybe you would be going thru a Disco phase. :impish:

Just be careful that you don't continue too far. You don't want to end up in a shack.

I see what you did there. Yeah, in shack you could end up getting schlecked!

Ok, went back to the doctor. Good news, I can start riding again. Bad news, pathology was inconclusive, so now they send it out. Not worried this has happened before to me and to others I know. Looks like I'll have to wait another week or two.

Thursday I get to commute to school by bike- we'll see how much fitness I've lost.
