Help me decide on a stem, please....

Postby Soloist Assassin » Tue Dec 20, 2011 2:38 am

Okay guys serious question. I need to replace my boat anchor 130mm stem on the S2. My choices are:

Extralite Road Stem OC $200 95g

New Ultimate $90 115g

I am kinda worried about flex since I used a 130mm length that's a pretty long stem to get leverage on. However, I weigh 160lbs on a bad day, so am I really going to torque it? Probably not. What do you guys think? I don't like that the Extralite requires a Torx bit, but I guess you gotta do stuff like that when you're making crap this light. First hand experience with either would be greatly appreciated.

I use the Extralite 100mm with no problems, I weigh 15 stone so I`m no light weight and most of the riding I do is on hills
I`ve not noticed any flex
Its a beautiful piece of machining

extralite- just make sure you follow their installation instructions! I've been using their stems since 2006.

I thought the Extralite stem had a reputation for being a little flexier than most?

I thought the same thing, but it probably really has to do with the stem length. A 120 is surely flexier than a 90.
Have you ever wondered if there was more to life, other than being really, really, ridiculously good looking?
