Wilier Cento Uno: Old Dog, new tricks

Postby Fourthbook » Thu Oct 27, 2011 11:40 pm

Hello all:

Although I've made a few posts since I joined the conversation six weeks ago, I've not formally introduced myself or my ride as I've been waiting for a new wheelset and some other upgrades. The wheels aren't here yet, so I'll go ahead now and show the 'before' and post the 'after' when I get all the changes installed and tested in several weeks.

Some background: I live in flat central Ohio and have ridden (never raced) for recreation/fitness for 45 years (I'll be 60 next summer when I retire). I try to ride, weather permitting, 3 days a week for 2+ hours at about 20 mph if by myself. I'm 5'-7" and weigh ~155, although it seems my height is shrinking and my weight is increasing w/age. I bought the Cento Uno last summer, having ridden a 753 Eddy Merckx the past 18 years. I wanted to try carbon fiber w/an ISP. I had already upgraded to DA 7900 and MV32UL wheels the previous summer, having ridden tubulars for 20+ years w/great success.

So, the bike as shown is 14 lbs, 3 ozs. Here's the build list:
Frame: Wilier Cento Uno w/integrated Ritchey WCS carbon headset
Rims: Reynolds MV32UL-tubular
Hubs: Tune 70/160 (black), 24 (f) and 24 (r); DT Comp. spokes (white)
QR: Zipp titanium aero
Tires: Continental Competition (22mm.)
Gruppo: Dura Ace 7900
STI shifters/brake levers
brake calipers w/SwissStop yellow king pads
front derailleur
rear derailleur w/Enduro ‘zero’ ceramic pulleys (red)
crankset, compact
cassette (12/27)
chain
Cables: Yokozuna Reaction (white)
BB: Enduro ‘zero’ ceramic bearings
Stem: Ritchey WCS Carbon Matrix 4-Axis w/carbon weave finish
Bar: Ritchey Superlogic Carbon Evolution
Seat: Selle Italia SLR Kit Carbonio Flow (white)
Stubby: Ritchey WCS, 25mm setback
Pedals: Look Keo carbon titanium
Cage: Speedplay Nano
Tape: Deda Elementi, carbon-look (white)

The pending upgrades to get a bit more aero but not increasing overall weight are:
Enve 3.4 rims laced to Tune 70 & 170 (black) hubs w/CX-ray (black) spokes; red outline decals
KCNC full titanium cassette (11-23)
KMC X10SL (gold) chain
Woodman IT seat mast topper
Tune DC14 (red) skewers
Tune carbon cage

The black spokes and red/gold features will give the bike a different look...

Cheers to all!
