ENVE Twenty9 All Mountain Rim Details
The ENVE All Mountain rims were designed, as their name implies, for heavier and more aggressive riders than ENVE's XC 29" rim. The rim is 31mm deep and 24mm wide between the hook beads making it the ideal for tires between 2.2-2.4 inches wide. This extra width provides a stable platform that minimizes lateral roll and therefore increases traction and corner handling. At only 55 grams heavier than it's XC counterpart it's easy to understand that this wasn't a simple “make it wider” engineering task for ENVE. As with all their rims the All Mountain was purpose designed from the ground up making it the lightest rim in its class while adding important features for any rim such as increased sidewall thickness for impact protection.
Included with each Enve XC rim is a sealed tubeless valve and a roll of tubeless rim tape. As with most tubeless rims, Enve's XC UST rims are also compatible with standard tube and tire setups.
All Mountain vs Cross Country
While ENVE and most sites have been highlighting the increased durability of the All Mountain rims for aggressive trail riding and medium-long travel suspension bikes the cross country application has largely been overlooked. Weighing in at 440 grams the All Mountain rim is only 55 grams heavier than the Cross Country version of the twenty niner and 6mm wider. This weight makes it comparable to the alloy “XC Race” counterparts like DT Swiss' XR 400 29 (450g), Stan's Arch (470g), and Stan's ZTR 355 (410g) all of which measure under 20mm internal rim width. The extra 4+ mm of width will allow a rider to run a larger tire with more air volume reducing rolling resistance by soaking up bumps and adding suspension for a rigid or short travel XC bike. Add to that the increased durability, stiffness and increased lifespan and you have an incredible cross country or race wheel.
As with all ENVE wheels the Twenty Niner All Mountain rim is made in the United States at ENVE's Ogden Utah headquarters. Each rim is hand made using a proprietary process. Every rim and spoke count uses a separate mold. This allows ENVE to integrate spoke holes into the design preventing the cutting of any carbon fibers and reducing nipple pull through.
We recommend that wheels built with Enve rims be assembled by an experienced wheelbuilder. We are happy to provide this service, and can provide helpful suggestions in hub and spoke selections. Please contact us directly or submit a custom wheel build request here.
