About Enve Composites
In late 2010, Edge Composites announced that they would be changing their company name to Enve Composites. This change was initiated to avoid trademark infringement issues in Europe. Internally, Enve remains the same cutting-edge composites manufacturer with no changes in ownership, management, or staff. Expect great things from Enve in the coming years as they move into a new, state-of-the-art production facility and begin a rollout of new products based on collaboration with the world's top aerodyamics specialists.
Detail
This tubular rim offering from Enve Composites is an extremely lightweight yet durable option for cross country 29ers. For riders looking to gain every last advantage in XC racing, or desperately seeking to shed that last bit of excess weight off their already insanely light mountain rigs, this rim will provide an excellent foundation for a lightweight, yet nimble wheelset.
At Fair Wheel Bikes, we'll be the first to admit that mountain tubulars aren't for everyone. The expense and hassle of obtaining and gluing tires would have most riders aching to just get out and ride. However, the benefits of running a tubular tire in the dirt are definitely worth considering. Beyond the most obvious weight advantage (this rim is over 100 grams lighter than Enve's clincher version), there are performance benefits as well. Compared to clinchers, lower tire pressures can be used to increase traction and cornering performance while eliminating the possibility of pinch flats.
Assembly
We recommend that wheels built with Enve rims be assembled by an experienced wheelbuilder. We are happy to provide this service, and can provide helpful suggestions in hub and spoke selections. Please contact us directly or submit a custom wheel build request here.
