About the Author:

Richard spent most of his youth growing up in the suburbs of Salt Lake City, completely unaware of his future cycling ambitions. At the age of 21, the frustrations and expenses of car ownership pushed him head on into cycling culture. A handyman by nature, Richard quickly learned the ins and outs of basic bicycle maintenance, purchased a sizable tool set, and set up shop in a friends garage. Richard's next step was attending the United Bicycle Institute's three week intensive bicycle maintenance course in the summer of 2002, after which he began volunteering with the Salt Lake City Bicycle Collective as a mechanic and shop manager.

Fast forward two years; Richard begins working at Fair Wheel Bikes after relocating to sunny Tucson, Arizona. The dominant road biking culture at Fair Wheel and in Tucson quickly took hold, and he found himself attending local group rides and even a few amateur races. Richard excelled as a mechanic at Fair Wheel and showed strong interest in the exotic products and high end project bikes that has made Fair Wheel famous. Seeing this, Jason Woznick hand-picked Richard to assist with the fledgling retail website. The growth that has followed is impressive, to say the least. Richard's current position at Fair Wheel is a hodgepodge of customer service, odd jobs, organization, website content control, wheel building, and more. Oddly enough, the failed efforts to give him a job title provide him with a sense of satisfaction and belonging.
