Portland-based manufacturer Chris King designs their headsets with durable, low cost crown races that are easily replaced when worn or damaged from removal. When installing a used headset onto a new frame and fork we highly recommend replacing this piece, as slight deformations are common even when when the baseplate is carefully removed. These are available in the stock stainless steel material, or titanium for weight savings. A "tall" baseplate adds 5 mm of stack to the lower half of the headset, increasing fork crown clearance

Installation
We recommend that only experienced mechanics attempt headset installations. To avoid damage to the crown race and fork, Chris King's crown race installation adapter tool should be used.
