In familiar fashion, Carbon-Ti again pushes the envelope with its
X-Lock Special series skewers. The X-Lock Specials use the same design
features as the standard X-Locks, but material has been removed from
every possible surface to make these the very lightest quick release
skewers available anywhere.
These skewers function on a simple
spherical open cam design which prevents the cam from becoming
misaligned, and increases the surface area where pressure is applied.
Carbon-Ti includes small custom made cap springs to keep the skewer
centered for fast wheel changes. Due to the small dimensions of this
particular design, care must be taken not to over clamp the skewer, and
both cams and end caps should be inspected periodically to ensure the
safety of the rider.
Both the axles and lever arms are
manufactured from high quality grade 5 titanium. The axles' center
sections are swaged to increase their fatigue life, which additionally
provides some slight weight reduction. The 7075 aircraft-grade aluminum
axle ends are aggressively machined to the smallest possible
dimensions, and are beautifully anodized in silver.
