Shawn,

We didn't do a review of 7900. It's a very solid group and it was very hard to imagine how 9000 would have improved significantly on it. But once you ride 9000 and feel the front shifting it's apparent things have improved.

Awesome review of the shimano dura ace 9000. Do you have a link of your review on the shimano dura ace 7900? I currently have the 7900 on my bike, but have only seen the positive reviews on youtube and other websites. I would like to see another opinion of them, and see what parts I can update to the new dura ace 9000 for improvement if possible.

Thanks,
Shawn

Hello Sir. Your report on the shimano 9000 is the most in-depth article that I have read thus far. I was curious if there is enough room when the brakes are in the release position to clear 25mm or 28mm tires or are thin brake shoes required.

Regards, Chris

Great review - agree with the sentiment that somewhere deep inside fortress Shimano, there's a cabal of engineers that wanted to make one last stab at mechanical excellence in the face of impending electronic domination. In the next few years we're likely going to see continuing advances in technology pushed out with varying degrees of refinement - disc brakes, electronic shifting, etc. but due to their infancy they won't be able to hold a candle to the pinnacle of mechanical-generation components. In transitional times like this it's challenging (and expensive!) to embrace both the new ideas and the polished / refined older ideas. I'm inclined to build out a bike with Dura Ace 9000 as a shrine / homage to the best of what was possible for that era of bicycling.

Nice review. How big of a tire will the 9000 brakes accommodate? Would a 28mm Gatorskin or 28 mm Pasalea fit with decent clearance?
Thanks!

What is the largest tire size that the Dura Ace 9000 brakes will accommodate? For example, could I run 28mm Conti-Gator Skins or 28mm Pan-Pasaleas? I ride a currernt geometry 58cm Moots "Vamoots". Thanks!
