Back during Interbike 2010 we reported on KMC’s new DLC coated chain that was available in black and red. Now we have the limited edition Kmc X10SL DLC coated chain is available in full black. That’s right, the limited edition black on red has been revamped for the coming year and is now available in black on black. Same great performance as the standard X10SL, but without the color. Due to the extremely high production cost of DLC coating the chains, these will be available only in limited quantities. The DLC black on black chain will be available….. Now.

what is the price of this chain?
James,
The chain is $130 :: http://fairwheelbikes.com/kmc-x10sl-10-speed-chain-p-3355.html
I swear my new chain (KMC Black DLC) has now polished my Rotor q-ring teeth to a bright silvery shine after a ride or two… granted it had some wear to start, but now a little concerned what this chain will do to the drivetrain.
DLC means diamond like carbon- I think this chain will ruin a lot of drivetrains… The coating is harder than any of the existing drivetrain materials… I’d rather change the chain often than the crank or cogs…. They should coat the cranks and cogs with DLC… It will be more expensive though.
Just like bearings….if the ball bearings are ceramic but the races are aluminum…the races will get ruined 1st… That’s a shout out to all shimano wheelsets owners- its not smart to replace your loose ball bearings with ceramic…just get better grade bearings – grade 25 or grade 10 is really smooth
