I felt Pikes Peak was the hardest climb for the trip. The top half felt steep, only when I went searching for the climb profile afterwards did I realize how steep. Top section at elevation has a km at 10.6%! It was the first time in my travels where I’ve found 39*29 too small. Normally it has been fine, but studies suggest ~72% sea level FTP at around the 4000m mark made a noticeable difference.

Very happy that after a successful trial in September 2012 that the road management opened up this road to bikes year round. I still need to write a letter thanking them for doing this.
